EXCELLENCE IN SUSTAINABILITY AWARDS
This awards program recognizes individuals, companies, and products/services for outstanding innovations in media technology that promote sustainability and foster economic and social development. Judged by an independent panel of experts, award winners will be chosen across seven categories based on the criteria defined for each category. The awards will be presented during a special ceremony on the Main Stage at NAB Show on April 14 in Las Vegas. The awards ceremony will include a panel discussion, as well as NAB and AWS donation presentation to a charity. Learn more + apply.

YOUR ROLE IN EXHIBITOR SUSTAINABILITY
As an exhibitor, you play a vital role in our sustainability efforts. Here is a checklist for ways you can contribute:
BOOTH DESIGN
- Take advantage of local or regional representatives to staff your booth, rather than bringing staff from far away offices, reducing travel cost and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
- Use booth materials that are made from recycled materials and can either be reused or
- Consider renting a booth from the show’s general contractor (Freeman) or buying materials locally, reducing shipping costs, GHG emissions and waste.
- Rent carpet to reduce shipping costs and GHG
- If you buy carpet, select a carpet made from recycled content, reuse it as many times as possible, and dispose of it responsibly by recycling it to reduce waste.
- Use energy efficient lighting (e.g., LED or CFL bulbs) to reduce energy consumption
- Ask yourself if you can do with The less materials you use the more you will do to reduce the impacts of your booth on the environment.
BOOTH ACCESSORIES
- Rent/use ENERGY STAR rated or efficient appliances and equipment, reducing onsite energy
- Ensure giveaway items are useful (i.e. not wasteful) as well as promotional (will attendees simply leave your giveaway in their hotel room or can you find a low-impact way to have attendees make a meaningful connection with your brand? ).
- Purchase promotional items that are made of recycled materials or have other sustainable attributes, fairware.com or www.ecopromotionsonline.com are both great sites to find items.
PRINTING
- Reduce the amount of graphics printed to reduce printing and shipping costs, and
- Print banners and signage that can be reused for multiple shows (avoid using dates or specific tradeshow names on your signage)
- Avoid printing on foamcore (PVC-based, non-recyclable industry standard substrate). Instead request 100% cardboard options that are more resistant to dimpling and recyclable (If ordering through Freeman, request “ecoboard”).
- Reduce the amount of printed literature and handouts, reducing resource use and (Note: The use of QR codes on small postcard-sized collateral is a common, effective practice. Create free QR codes at qrcode.kaywa.com.)
- Print on FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) certified paper to support responsible forestry
- Print on paper that contains post-consumer recycled content (100% is best, but any amount makes a difference) to reduce resource use.
- Use a local printer in the event destination city to reduce shipping costs and
SHIPPING
- Plan shipping needs to avoid expedition costs and GHG emissions (i.e. shipping by plane produces 5 times the amount of GHGs as trucking freight).
- Consolidate shipments and reuse shipping containers if
- Eliminate or reduce the amount of expanded polystyrene (StyrofoamTM) used to ship materials and reuse padding materials whenever possible.
- Ensure that staff utilize a no-idling policy when delivering items
ONSITE
- Responsibly use recycling bins to recycle plastics, glass, aluminum and paper in the convention center and your hotel.
- Dispose of all food scraps in the designated bins in the Clean-Up
- Turn off/down booth lighting during set-up and after show
- Pack and use a reusable water bottle Water is free and it avoids waste.
- Recycle your unwanted literature and handouts in labeled recycling bins to reduce waste to
AROUND TOWN
- Use public transportation when NAB Show is accessible by the monorail and by shuttle from most major hotels
- Avoid taxis by walking when
- Turn off the lights and reduce AC/heat use when you leave your hotel
- Take advantage of linen and towel reuse initiatives at your
- Decline newspaper delivery of unread
BE A ROCK STAR
- Consider offsetting the greenhouse gas emissions associated with your flight, hotel, and/or booth shipment through an offset provider such as Carbonfund.org.
