Amplify editor Emily M. Reigart interviews Nagesh Puppala about Intel’s plans for the 2022 NAB Show. General manager for the Edge & Cloud Video Division at Intel, Puppala previews some of the new products, technologies, customers and partners Intel will be highlighting this spring and shares some business and technology trends he’s identified within the industry.

- Towards Ubiquitous AV1 Encoding with SVT-AV1 1.0
Where: Connect Innovation Zone in the West Hall
When: Monday, April 25, 4–4:30 p.m.
What: Discover the latest performance and features of the open source SVT-AV1 1.0 release. With support for use cases across VOD to live, this powerful and flexible AV1 software encoder is now available and ready for commercial deployments. In this session, Intel will share more about new presets optimized for low latency and real-time communications, as well as the advances in VOD shot-based encoding.

- Improving Video Quality with AI
Where: Intelligent Content Innovation Zone in the West Hall
When: Monday, April 25, 4:30–5 p.m.
What: Advances in AI continue to provide opportunities to increase video quality. In this session, Intel and partner iSize will showcase recent advances in AI-based super resolution and denoising that can be used to provide high quality video for the latest streaming services, and to improve video quality for noisy video sources such as analog cameras and user generated content.

- Virtualized Live Video Production
Where: Create Innovation Zone in the North Hall
When: Tuesday, 1–1:30 p.m.
What: Live video production is transitioning from its historic dependence on inflexible, costly, proprietary standards and equipment to a more open model based on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware. Adopting an IP software-defined deployment model for video production enables the industry to benefit from innovations from the larger information and communications technology (ICT) arena. In doing so, solution architects for video processing realize advantages in flexibility, scalability, and cost by replacing proprietary infrastructure with general-purpose IT technologies.

- 3D Holographic Broadcasts with Volumetric Video
Where: Connect Innovation Zone in the West Hall
When: Tuesday, 2–2:30 p.m.
What: The convergence and democratization of 3D human performance capture, 3D digital set design, virtual production, and real-world augmented experiences are enabling entirely new ways of creating and delivering content. This session will explore the use of 3D volumetric video in both live broadcasts and pre-recorded content to create more immersive experiences for everything from TV broadcasts to Instagram to virtual reality and the metaverse.

Nagesh Puppala is the general manager for Edge & Cloud Video Division (ECVD) within the Network and Edge Group (NEX) at Intel Corp. As part of the Network and Edge Group, he oversees the strategy and execution of hardware and software deliverables for compelling solutions in video production, video delivery, cloud gaming, immersive media, video analytics, and cloud graphics. Nagesh holds an MBA from the New York University, a master’s degree in computer science and bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
