Tell me about FUJIFILM’S FUJINON DUVO HZK24-300MM Portable PL Mount Zoom Lens, X100VI AND GFX100 II, all of which won a NAB Show Product of the Year award earlier this year. What challenges are they intended to solve?

Both FUJIFILM X100VI and GFX100 II have helped holistically address the various needs users have when it comes to making content. With X100VI, the increased resolution from 26.1MP to 40.2MP imaging sensor opened doors for FUJIFILM users to confidently carry a fixed focal length camera with them everywhere and not feel like they were making any sacrifices in doing so.

GFX100 II, on the other hand, has allowed FUJIFILM users to expand more into video capabilities with one of the largest imaging surfaces available to use for video.

While broadcast cameras have traditionally contained smaller sensors, many industry professionals are now looking to larger formats to deliver a cinematic aesthetic. FUJINON DuvoTM HZK24-300mm Portable PL Mount Zoom Lens (Duvo 24-300mm) offers native Super 35mm sensor coverage, but sensors equivalent to full-frame can be covered via the built-in expander. This function expands the lens image circle by 1.5x, maintaining the same optical quality and angle of view. This offers an incredibly versatile focal length range, making it highly adaptable to various creative needs. Go wide and dramatic or push in tight for a detailed close-up from a single camera position, with 24-300mm coverage on a Super 35 sensor. Utilizing the built-in 1.5x expander, full-frame sensors will garner an effective 36-450mm zoom range.

Wide, light, and long, this single lens goes farther than most, both practically and creatively. Despite its advanced functionality, Duvo 24-300mm is exceptionally small and lightweight. The lens measures just 10.6 inches (270.5mm) and weighs an evenly distributed 6.5 lbs. (2.95kg), with a front diameter of 4.49 inches (114mm). That’s comfortably handholdable when attached to any camera body, controllable on remote heads, and the Duvo 24-300mm won’t create an imbalance with your supporting system. From high-end workflows right down to solo operation, it’s a seamless fit.

What kind of feedback have you heard from customers?

FUJIFILM users have been especially excited about X100VI’s new sensor and in-body image stabilization. Creators on the go really appreciate the small form factor, so to add the more powerful sensor and IBIS makes the camera even more appealing. Plus, the video capabilities are professional-grade – full HD and up to 6K video in such a portable package makes content creation a breeze without the cumbersome and heavy equipment frequently associated with video production. Think news crews doing an on-the-street interview or remote production teams – they can create high-quality video content right from the unobtrusive X100VI with the press of a button – perfect for use in the field. Plus, with both cameras featuring Frame.io Camera to Cloud functionality, creators save incredible amounts of time in post-production since the files are immediately transmitted to the cloud as they’re created. Editing can begin immediately on the back end instead of waiting for the creator to access the content on their SD card.

GFX100 II has seen lots of adoption for commercial and cinema workflows. Though it’s larger than X100VI, GFX100 II still has a compact enough form factor that it can be used handheld to create cinema-quality output. Its 102MP 43.8 x 32.9mm CMOS II HS sensor is a faster variant of previous GFX cameras, with a readout speed about two times faster than predecessor cameras. Powered by the newest XProcessor 5, users are enjoying updated subject detection autofocus, with an updated AF prediction algorithm that is perfect for high-speed motion tracking situations (like filmmaking), and up to eight stops of IBIS.

For video, GFX100 II offers 4K/60p and 8K/30p 4:2:2 10-bit in-camera recording. ISO 100 can also now be used for the highest quality footage. GFX100 II supports various cine recording formats, including full-width GF format, Fujinon Premista, 35mm, and anamorphic (35mm). With a basic GF to PL adapter, cinematographers can use GFX100 II’s massive imaging sensor with some of the world’s most legendary cinema optics, including FUJINON’s Premista and Cabrio series zoom Lenses. These features have proven invaluable to creators who are using GFX100 II to make cinema-quality video content.

When it comes to Duvo 24-300mm, generally, once customers get their hands on it, they don’t want to let go. Those who have initially wondered whether the lens would optically have a “broadcast” or “video” look” are instantly delighted to see first-hand that, while Duvo 24-300 functions like a broadcast lens, it visually matches the renowned optical characteristics of Fujinon cinema zooms.

How do you see FUJINON Duvo HZK24-300MM Portable PL Mount Zoom Lens, X100VI AND GFX100 II fitting into the market?

Duvo 24-300mm combines handheld broadcast lens operability with a beautiful bokeh, combining the best of — and for — both worlds. The lens is relatively small size and lightweight, making it well suited for everything from handheld use to balanced remote-head mounting, and complements easy operability with enough coverage for nearly any creative demand at 7.1x zoom. Duvo 24-300mm gives handheld positions within a show the opportunity to take advantage of that classic Fujinon cinema look, developed over our 80 years of heritage. It’s bringing Fujinon’s color space, latitude, and shallow depth-of-field to live shows, and bringing viewers closer to the show.

As for X100VI and GFX100 II, they are certainly very different cameras, but one thing they have in common is the host of capabilities they bring to creators. X100VI, especially, has such a distinctive look that it’s become a real conversation starter for users carrying it in public. Looks aside, the capabilities of the camera are so diverse that anyone from beginner to pro can pick it up and start creating quickly and with ease. What’s allowed X100VI to carve a unique position in the marketplace is that it’s easy and fun to use while delivering an incredible output.

GFX100 II brings capabilities to users that are generally only otherwise found with cameras on a much different plane — in terms of form, function, and pricing — which opens the door for content creators who need these capabilities in a package that can grow with them.
